All proceeds from the Bike Hut Classic go directly to Abundant Grace Coastside Worker to help address the homeless crisis on the Coast. That's $50 from each participant! Abundant Grace runs twice weekly \"job readiness\" programs at Potrero Nuevo Farm, allowing those experiencing homelessness to help grow and harvest thousands of pounds of organic produce each year, which are donated to low-income families in Half Moon Bay. Abundant Grace also runs a farm apprenticeship program that includes accountability and mindfulness workshops. This year we added the Conservation Crew that takes participants into the wilderness areas of the farm to work on land stewardship projects and carbon sequestration through teamwork. Additionally, Abundant Grace has a Coastal Clean Team that clears trash from our beaches, and in 2020 opened a WorkForce Development Center to provide resources to folks who desperately need them. Learn more about Abundant Grace by clicking the link above or at the Bike Hut Classic ride reception on the farm (behind the Bike Hut) on July 31. Eric Debode, founder and Executive Director, will be there along with other staff to tell you more about their work and the positive impact it’s having on the Coast.
If you would like to fundraise for Abundant Grace by asking your friends and family to support you in this ride, we invite you to set up a peer-to-peer fundraising page by registering with the button below. Thank you for spreading the word about the work we're doing to address the homeless crsis.

DIY Ride
\n
July 9 - 27
\n
Complete the Tunitas climb on your own between July 9 and 27. Start just past the Bike Hut porta potty and set out for Skyline, ending as you pass the last big Redwood on the left side of the road (see photo), just before the turnout by Rte. 35. We’ll mark the start and finish lines on the road. Complete the ride as many times as you want and submit your best time!
\n
Parking
\n
There is limited parking on the farm behind the Bike Hut by appointment only. Send an email to thebikehut@potreronuevofarm.org to reserve access. Other options include: making it part of your usual Tunitas loop; parking at the top of Tunitas and warming up as you descend the road, then starting your ride back up to your car; or parking at the San Gregorio General Store (corner of Hwy. 84 & Stage Rd.) and biking over from there.
\n

Recording Your Time and Submitting Results
\n\n
Using the Strava App: Search for \"The Bike Hut\" Club in Half Moon Bay, CA and request to join. We'll approve your membership promptly, and then you can search for and *star* the \"Official Bike Hut Classic\" segment. You should be able to do a segment search for it, but you can also link with this address: https://www.strava.com/segments/25123230. Once enough Strava users *star* this segment, it should become unhidden, as it will move up in rank according to the app algorithm. Either way, once you've *starred* the segment, it should appear on your Strava app. When you complete the ride, your information will automatically post on this segment and will be added to our club leaderboard.
\n
Manual Entry: No Strava? No problem! Simply time yourself with your watch and submit with this google survey. Please note, your time will not be counted for fastest in your category. It will, however, appear in the ride results at the reception so you can see how you ranked in your age group.

Course Description: Tunitas is challenging enough to keep avid cyclists coming back, but it’s also doable for an average exerciser! Begin from the Bike Hut (1045 Tunitas Creek Rd; Half Moon Bay, CA 94019) with two miles of rolling countryside (easy) before starting the gorgeous and gritty ascent into the Redwood forest. It’s two miles of (moderate) climbing before the switchbacks take a steeper grade for a breathless mile and a half more (difficult). Luckily, this is also where Tunitas feels extra magical, alive with giant Redwoods and bright greenery carpeting the forest floor. Once past the Purisima trailhead, things level with a moderate incline for the final three miles (easy) to Skyline.
Non-Strava Users - download the RideWithGPS map and cue sheet to populate your device here.
Stop by Potrero Nuevo Farm (1045 Tunitas Creek Rd; Half Moon Bay) behind the Bike Hut to pick up your T-shirt and see the fastest ride times in each category. Enjoy coffee and an ice cream sundae with strawberries from the farm while we’re all social distancing and wearing masks! The folks from Abundant Grace Coastside Worker will be there to congratulate you on your ride, and they’ll be announcing raffle prize winners and displaying the gorgeous walnut winners’ plaque created by Marc Jones at Made In Pescadero, which will be forever displayed in the Bike Hut for all to see. We’ll have limited parking if you’d rather not ride by that day. Email thebikehut@potreronuevofarm.org for parking reservations.

Can’t make it to the Ride Reception? We’ll post ride & raffle prize winners to this page by noon on July 31. Check your email closer to the date to schedule your T-shirt or raffle prize pickup for the next time you’re riding by the Bike Hut!

This sweet T-shirt was designed by talented artist HBS Artworks! Hannah is known for her woodblock prints depicting wild landscapes, and we were lucky to work with her on this tee. She generously donated her design to the ride for last year’s black & white t-shirt, and this year we’re going full color! She nearly sold out of the limited edition prints she made of the same design, but one lucky person can still buy the last one on her etsy shop here. Scroll to the “About” section at the bottom of her etsy page to watch a video of the artist in her process.
